AAP Dominates Doaba Region in Punjab District and Panchayat Elections
Chandigarh: The results of Punjab’s District Council and Block Committee elections have brought cheer to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), as the party made significant inroads into the Doaba region, traditionally considered a Congress stronghold. The only exception in the entire election was Nawanshahr, where Congress managed to retain its lead.
AAP Emerges as the Leading PartyVoting for 346 District Council zones across 22 districts and 2,838 Block Committee zones for 153 committees was held on December 14, with results declared on December 18. In the District Council elections, AAP secured 218 zones, while Congress won 62, Shiromani Akali Dal 46, BJP 7, and BSP 3 zones. Independent candidates claimed victories in 10 zones.
