BJP Emerges Strongest in Maharashtra Local Body Polls, But Final Control Hinges on Supreme Court Verdict
Pune:The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the single largest force in Maharashtra’s recently concluded local body elections, securing the highest number of presidents and key posts in municipal councils and nagar panchayats. However, despite the clear electoral advantage, the fate of governance in 57 local bodies remains uncertain and will depend on a Supreme Court verdict scheduled for January 21.
Out of these 57 local bodies, the Mahायुति alliance—comprising BJP, Shiv Sena, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)—won 39 seats, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) secured 17 seats.
