Akshay Khanna’s striking hairstyle in the movie Dhurandhar has created a fan frenzy, but what many don’t know is that the actor’s hair in the film isn’t natural. Khanna has been dealing with hair loss since his teenage years, and his signature look in the movie is achieved using a hairpiece.
When Did His Hair Loss Begin?
In an interview, Akshay revealed that his hair started thinning around the age of 19–20. At its peak, he would lose 10–15 strands just by running his fingers through his hair. Over time, much of his hair had receded, particularly at the crown, leaving only short strands around the sides.
The Cause: Alopecia
According to reports, Akshay Khanna suffers from a medical condition called alopecia. This condition causes rapid hair loss and prevents new hair growth, making individuals prone to baldness at any age. Alopecia can affect both men and women, as well as children, and typically impacts the scalp most visibly.
What is Alopecia?
Alopecia is a condition that can cause hair loss on the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, and other parts of the body. It may be temporary or permanent, with causes ranging from hormonal changes and autoimmune disorders to stress.
Treatment Options
While there is no guaranteed cure, various treatments can help manage alopecia and promote hair growth. Options include steroid injections, topical Minoxidil, and phototherapy, which strengthen the immune system and encourage hair regrowth. Though permanent restoration is challenging, these methods can improve hair density and appearance over time.
Despite his hair challenges, Akshay Khanna’s performance and dance moves in Dhurandhar have been widely praised, proving that charisma and talent go far beyond looks.
