Washing Machine Looking Dirty? Make It Shine Like New with a ₹10 Powder – Easy DIY Hack

New Delhi: Washing clothes is a daily routine, but many overlook the cleanliness of their washing machines. Over time, residual detergent, water stains, and mold can accumulate, affecting the machine’s efficiency and even leaving clothes less clean. However, there’s no need to spend heavily on commercial cleaners. A simple, cost-effective method using just ₹10 worth of baking soda and a few household ingredients can restore your machine to its sparkling condition.

Ingredients Needed

To prepare the cleaning solution, you will need:

  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 small packet of baking soda (around ₹10)
  • A few drops of liquid dishwash
  • Vinegar

Mix all the ingredients thoroughly to create a foamy, powerful cleaning solution.

How to Apply the Solution

  1. Safety first: Unplug your washing machine and ensure it does not get submerged in water or cleaning solution.
  2. Using a small or medium-sized brush, apply the solution to all dirty areas—drum edges, detergent dispenser, and the inside of the lid. For tight spots, a toothbrush works best.

Let It Work

Leave the solution on for 10–15 minutes. The mixture of baking soda and vinegar loosens dirt, soap scum, and mold, making it easier to remove.

Scrub and Wipe Clean

After waiting, gently scrub the applied areas with water and a brush. Dirt and residues will come off easily. Use a toothbrush to reach corners and hard-to-clean spots. Finally, wipe the entire machine with a clean, dry cloth for a polished finish.

Protect Sensitive Parts and Dry

Take extra care while cleaning buttons and control panels—never let water seep inside. Clean these areas with a lightly damp or dry cloth. After cleaning, if possible, leave the machine in sunlight for a day to dry completely. This prevents moisture and mold, leaving your washing machine looking and functioning like new.
