Former Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal (Retd.) V.R. Chaudhary has revealed new details about Operation Sindoor, India’s decisive military response to Pakistani attacks on Indian defense installations. Speaking at an event at IIT Bombay, where former Navy Chief R. Hari Kumar and former Army Chief Manoj Pandey were also present, Chaudhary said the operation targeted Pakistan’s most critical military bases and terrorist camps, demonstrating India’s resolve and operational precision.
Striking Terrorist Camps Inside POK
According to Chaudhary, on May 7, India carried out strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). Of these, the Bahawalpur and Murdike camps were primarily hit by the Indian Air Force. He emphasized that this marked the first time India had penetrated so deep into enemy territory with such precision, aiming directly at key operational hubs of terrorist activity.
The strikes were carried out as a bold retaliatory decision by the Government of India in response to the Pahalgam attack in April, which had targeted Indian civilians and defense personnel. The operation was a joint effort of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, reflecting careful planning and integrated execution.
Defending Against Pakistani Counterattacks
Chaudhary noted that India had anticipated retaliatory action. Pakistan launched drone and missile strikes on Indian military and civilian targets, including hospitals near Udhampur. However, India’s integrated air defense system successfully intercepted every incoming drone and missile, ensuring zero damage or casualties on Indian soil.
Strategic Impact
The former Air Chief stated that the counter-strikes forced Pakistan to retreat after a four-day military escalation in May, underlining the effectiveness of India’s coordinated defense and offensive capabilities. Operation Sindoor not only neutralized immediate threats but also sent a clear message regarding India’s readiness and precision in safeguarding national security.
The revelations underscore India’s growing ability to conduct deep-penetration precision strikes while maintaining robust defensive measures at home, setting a benchmark for future integrated military operations.
