JDU Offers Security to Rohini Acharya After Safety Post; RJD Maintains Silence, Adding to Lalu Yadav’s Unease

Patna: A fresh political controversy has erupted in Bihar following a public post by Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, in which she raised concerns over women’s safety in their “maayka” (parental home). The issue escalated further after the ruling Janata Dal (United) offered her full security, while the RJD and the Lalu family have remained conspicuously silent.

Rohini Acharya, who lives in Singapore and had donated a kidney to her father, recently posted on social media urging the Bihar government to ensure that “every daughter feels safe in her parental home.” Her statement immediately triggered political reactions, with the JDU stepping in a day later to publicly assure her of protection.

Government Takes Rohini’s Concerns Seriously: JDU

Responding to Rohini’s remarks, JDU leaders said the Nitish Kumar government accords top priority to women’s safety. Rajya Sabha MP and JDU working president Sanjay Kumar Jha told reporters that the government would seriously consider her concerns.

“Ensuring the safety and dignity of daughters is our foremost priority. Women played a decisive role in our electoral success, and under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, Bihar has taken concrete steps to guarantee their security,” Jha said, highlighting the chief minister’s nearly two-decade-long governance record.

He added that the JDU has never made personal attacks on families, but when it comes to women’s rights and safety, the government’s track record speaks for itself.

‘If She Seeks Help, Full Security Will Be Provided’

JDU MLC and chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar went a step further, stating that the government was ready to deploy full security cover for Rohini Acharya if she sought assistance.

“It is deeply unfortunate that a daughter who donated a kidney to save her father’s life is now being compelled to raise concerns about safety in her own parental home,” Kumar said. “The moment we receive information that she feels threatened or requires protection—whether she is travelling to Bihar or already here—the government will ensure full security, including deployment of women police personnel.”

Taking a swipe at the RJD’s long-standing plank of social justice, Kumar remarked, “If a daughter is denied justice, then claims of social justice become hollow.”

RJD’s Silence Raises Questions

Despite the political storm, no official response has come from the RJD or the Lalu family so far. The party’s silence has intensified speculation and added to the political pressure on Lalu Prasad Yadav, especially as the issue involves his own daughter and touches upon the sensitive subject of women’s safety.

What Rohini Acharya Said

In her post, Rohini Acharya appeared to hint at personal and familial discord. She wrote that every daughter has the right to grow up with the assurance that her parental home is a safe space—one she can return to “without fear, guilt, shame, or the need to explain herself.” She stressed that ensuring such safety is not merely an administrative responsibility but a crucial step toward preventing future exploitation and harassment of women.

Rohini Acharya had drawn public attention last month as well when she announced that she was severing ties with her family, leaving her parental home, and stepping away from politics.

As Bihar’s political circles closely watch the unfolding developments, the episode has turned into a highly sensitive mix of personal turmoil and political confrontation, with the ruling party seizing the moment and the opposition opting for silence.
