Rajasthan BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya Back in Controversy Over Fresh Remark

BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya, known for his frequent controversial statements, has once again found himself at the center of a political storm. A new video of the first-time legislator from Jaipur’s Hawa Mahal constituency has gone viral, in which he is heard threatening to “beat a municipal officer at a public square” if found guilty of collusion in an illegal construction case.

Fresh Controversy Over Illegal Construction

According to reports, Acharya reached a site where Jaipur Municipal Corporation had sealed a building following complaints of illegal construction. Locals allegedly told him that the work continued with the support of municipal officials. Reacting sharply, the MLA warned that if officials were indeed hand-in-glove with the violators, he would “thrash them at the same intersection and record a video.”
This latest incident has revived discussions about his earlier contentious remarks.

Who Is Balmukund Acharya?

A saffron-clad religious figure-turned-politician, Acharya entered politics for the first time in the 2023 assembly elections and won the Hawa Mahal seat. Soon after taking oath, he began touring his constituency and publicly reprimanded municipal officers over encroachments—an act that initially brought him into the spotlight.

Criticism Over Vande Mataram Remark

In April 2025, Acharya faced criticism when a video surfaced showing him scolding a man for not singing Vande Mataram during a patriotic event in Vaishali Nagar. He had questioned whether the man was “from India or abroad,” insisting that those living in the country must sing the national song.

Comments Targeting Congress

Acharya stirred further controversy in May 2025 during an event in Kota, where he alleged that Congress leaders had links with Pakistan. He also claimed that former education ministers educated in madrasas could not understand Indian history, labeling Mughal emperors like Akbar, Babur, and Humayun as “plunderers.”
Referring to a past espionage case, he went on to allege that “Congress leaders and their aides are Pakistan’s spies,” and accused the party of “protecting terrorists” and “trying to stop the construction of the Ram Temple.”

Apology After Jama Masjid Poster Incident

Earlier this year, Acharya sparked outrage after posters protesting the Pahalgam terror attack were pasted on the steps of Jaipur’s historic Jama Masjid by him and his supporters. Following criticism, he issued an apology, stating that the intent was to show unity against terrorism, not to hurt religious sentiments.
However, he added that while he would not say anything outside a mosque, he would “definitely chant ‘Pakistan Murdabad’ and ‘Terrorism Murdabad’ outside a temple.”
