“I Came All the Way from Alwar”: Fans Heartbroken as Rohit Sharma Falls for Golden Duck, Fielder Booed

Jaipur: Whenever Rohit Sharma steps onto a cricket field, fans are willing to travel hundreds of kilometres and spend thousands on tickets just to watch him bat. On Thursday, the same devotion turned into heartbreak at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, where Rohit was dismissed for a golden duck in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 match against Uttarakhand.

Opening the innings for Mumbai, Rohit was out on the very first ball he faced—his first golden duck in List-A cricket in 13 years. The early dismissal stunned the crowd, especially since Rohit had smashed a brilliant 155-run knock at the same venue in his previous match. Expecting another masterclass, thousands of fans had filled the stands, many travelling long distances to see their idol in action.

Fans Leave the Stadium in Disappointment

As soon as Rohit was dismissed, visible disappointment swept through the stadium. Several spectators were seen leaving the stands, and videos showing partially empty galleries soon went viral on social media.

One emotional fan, who had travelled nearly 170 kilometres from Alwar, was caught on camera saying, “I came all the way from Alwar last night just to watch Rohit bat. He got out on the first ball—it really hurts.”
Another fan said he had left home early in the morning pretending to go to the gym, only to see Rohit walk back without scoring. “My heart broke,” he said.

Fielder Faces Booing

Rohit was dismissed off pacer Devendra Singh Bora, playing a flick shot that went towards deep square leg. Jagmohan Nagarikoti, patrolling the boundary, initially fumbled the catch but recovered quickly to complete it on the second attempt. While it was an excellent piece of fielding, the crowd reacted angrily, loudly booing Nagarikoti and hurling abuse at him—an incident that also surfaced on social media.

Still ‘Mumbai Ka Raja’

Despite Rohit’s failure with the bat, his popularity remained unmatched. When he later took a stunning catch at slip off Shardul Thakur’s bowling, the entire stadium erupted in chants of “Mumbai ka Raja, Rohit Sharma.” Videos of fans passionately cheering for him have since gone viral.

Rohit’s early dismissal may have silenced his bat, but the overwhelming fan response once again underlined his unmatched stardom in Indian cricket—where even a golden duck cannot diminish the love he commands.
