New Delhi: England’s cricket team has suffered a heavy defeat in the Ashes series against Australia. After losing the first three matches of the five-match series, England’s hopes of winning the Ashes have been dashed once again. The team has failed to reclaim the coveted trophy for nearly a decade.
India’s former captain and current world No.1 ODI batsman, Rohit Sharma, took a light-hearted dig at England following their loss. Speaking at an event in Gurugram, Rohit said, “Playing in Australia is the toughest challenge in cricket. You can ask England about that.”
England’s Struggles in Australia:
England lost the first two Test matches in Perth and Brisbane by 8 wickets each, both concluding in less than three days. The third Test in Adelaide saw England putting up a stronger fight, but Ben Stokes’ side eventually fell short by 82 runs on the final day.
Rohit’s Record in Australia:
Rohit Sharma last played a Test in Australia from 26–30 December 2024 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Following a disappointing performance on that tour, he retired from Test cricket. Over his career in Australia, Rohit played 10 Tests and scored 439 runs in 19 innings. Despite this, his ODI record in Australia is remarkable—he has scored over 1,000 runs in ODIs on Australian soil, making him the only Indian to achieve this milestone. Only legends like Viv Richards and Desmond Haynes have scored more ODI runs than him in Australia. Rohit also holds the record for the most ODI centuries by a foreign player in Australia.
