In a spectacular display of skill, Indian opener Smriti Mandhana became the first Indian woman to cross the 4,000-run milestone in T20 International cricket. The historic achievement came during the first match of the five-match T20I series between India and Sri Lanka at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Mandhana, a left-handed batter, contributed a quick 25 runs off 25 balls in India’s innings, including four boundaries, during the opening encounter. With this performance, she reached a total of 4,007 runs in T20 Internationals, achieved over 154 matches and 148 innings at an average of 29.90. Her tally includes one century and 31 half-centuries.

While Mandhana now holds the distinction for India, the global record for most runs in women’s T20Is remains with New Zealand’s Suzie Bates, who has scored 4,716 runs in 177 matches, averaging 29.11 with one century and 28 half-centuries.

Among other top Indian performers, Harmanpreet Kaur ranks third in T20I runs, with over 3,600 runs in 183 matches, including one century.

In the first match, after losing the toss, Sri Lanka batted first and posted 121/6 in their allotted overs. Vishmi Gunaratne top-scored with 39 runs off 43 balls, while Hasini Perera and Harshitha Madavi contributed 20 and 21 runs, respectively. For India, Kranti Goud, Deepti Sharma, and Shri Charani picked one wicket each.

The T20I series will continue with the remaining four matches scheduled for December 23, 26, 28, and 30. The first two matches are being held at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, while the final three will take place at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
