Lucknow, UP: Uttar Pradesh’s 20-year-old all-rounder Prashant Veer made headlines at the IPL 2026 mini-auction on 16 December in Abu Dhabi, as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured his services for a record-breaking ₹14.20 crore. This made him one of the most expensive uncapped players in IPL history, sharing the record with Kartik Sharma.
Celebration with Teammates
Veer watched the auction live along with his teammates from UP. When the bid crossed ₹10 crore, UP captain Rinku Singh erupted with joy. Fellow players joked about Veer managing such a huge contract, making it a moment of celebration and pride. His signing amount surpassed the previous IPL record of ₹10 crore paid by Lucknow Super Giants for Avesh Khan in 2023.
Veer’s Impressive Stats
The young left-arm spinner represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. In 9 T20 matches, he has taken 12 wickets at an economy rate of 6.45, and he also has 2 wickets in 2 first-class matches.
A Dream Come True
Speaking to India Today after the auction, Veer said, “This is truly overwhelming. I didn’t expect this. I had talked to CSK officials earlier, and they had hinted something, but I never imagined such an opportunity. I feel extremely blessed and can’t wait to meet Dhoni bhai.”
With this record-breaking deal, Prashant Veer’s journey in IPL 2026 promises to be one of the most watched and anticipated stories of the tournament.
