Visakhapatnam: The final ODI of the India-South Africa series is set to take place in Visakhapatnam, with the three-match series currently tied 1-1. After Virat Kohli’s back-to-back centuries in the first two ODIs, the demand for tickets to the third match has skyrocketed, creating a frenzy among cricket fans.
Unprecedented Ticket Rush
According to the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA), ticket sales have witnessed an unprecedented surge, unlike anything seen in recent years. When tickets for the third ODI went on sale on 28 November, the initial response was lukewarm. With fan interest appearing low, the authorities even considered opening physical counters alongside online sales. However, Kohli’s consecutive centuries in Ranchi and Raipur completely changed the scenario.
Tickets Sold Out in Minutes
Y. Venkatesh, a member of ACA’s media and operations team, told The Indian Express, “The first phase of ticket sales on 28 November did not attract much attention. But after Kohli’s century in Ranchi, the second and third phases sold out within minutes. Nothing is left now.”
Excitement Spreads to the Airport
Two days before the match, the enthusiasm spread across the city, reaching the airport as fans gathered hours in advance to welcome the Indian team. Despite a delay in the team’s flight, fans waited patiently. The team departed Raipur around 6 PM, sending waves of excitement through Visakhapatnam.
Even at Raipur Airport, the mood was tense due to flight delays, with passengers expressing frustration. But as soon as the Indian players arrived, the atmosphere changed instantly. Fans erupted in applause upon seeing Virat Kohli and his teammates on the escalator, temporarily forgetting their earlier irritation over the flight delay.
The overwhelming response highlights Kohli’s unmatched popularity, with fans eager to witness his batting magic live in the decisive third ODI.
