Virat Kohli Just One Run Away from Entering Exclusive 16,000-Run List in List A Cricket

New Delhi: After nearly 15 years, Virat Kohli is making a return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy, representing Delhi under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant. In the tournament’s opening match, Delhi will take on Andhra Pradesh. Kohli is now just one run away from reaching a monumental milestone in List A cricket, crossing 16,000 career runs—a feat achieved by only a few cricketing legends.

Kohli’s Record in the Vijay Hazare Trophy
Kohli has played 17 matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Delhi, batting in 16 innings and scoring 910 runs at an average of 60.66. His highest score in the tournament is 124, and he has recorded four centuries and four half-centuries. Kohli made his List A debut for Delhi against the Army in 2006, before representing India in the Under-19 World Cup.

One Run Away from a Major Milestone
With 15,999 runs from 342 List A matches at an average of 57.34, Kohli is on the verge of becoming the second Indian, after Sachin Tendulkar, to score 16,000 runs in this format. So far, he has amassed 57 centuries and 84 half-centuries in List A cricket, with Tendulkar holding the record for the most centuries at 60.

Context in Global List A Records
The highest run-scorer in List A cricket history is England’s Graham Gooch, who scored 22,211 runs in 613 matches between 1973 and 1997. Sachin Tendulkar is third on the all-time list with 21,999 runs. Other greats who have scored more than Kohli include Graeme Hick, Kumar Sangakkara, Viv Richards, Ricky Ponting, Gordon Greenidge, and Sanath Jayasuriya.

With just one run needed, cricket fans eagerly await Kohli’s entry into this elite group, adding another historic achievement to his illustrious career.
