AAP MP Sanjay Singh Alleges 26 BLO Deaths During SIR Verification; Accuses Govt of Targeting Dalit–Backward Votes

Lucknow: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has levelled serious allegations against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of the voter list. AAP leaders claim that excessive pressure, unequal workload, and mental harassment have led to the deaths of over 26 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) across the country. The party has termed this situation a “grave constitutional crisis” and is holding condolence meetings in every district.

Deadline Extended, Controversy Deepens

The timeline for the SIR verification process in Uttar Pradesh has been extended by seven days. Amid this, AAP leaders alleged that the government is imposing extreme pressure on BLOs to manipulate the voter list.

A condolence event was organized in Lucknow on Sunday near the Shaheed Smarak at the Residency. Candles were lit in honour of the deceased officers.

Addressing the gathering, AAP spokesperson Prince Soni described the deaths as the result of a deliberate and oppressive government policy. He alleged that the central government is forcing BLOs to work under inhumane conditions to influence the voter register.

“Attack on Democracy,” Says AAP

Prince Soni demanded:

  • ₹1 crore compensation for the family of each deceased BLO
  • A government job for one dependent from each family
  • A high-level judicial inquiry into all reported deaths

He said these deaths represent an attack on the foundations of democracy, not merely the loss of staff members. He warned that AAP would launch a statewide agitation if corrective action is not taken immediately.

Accusations of Vote Deletion

AAP district president Iram Rizvi stated that BLOs nationwide are working without proper resources, safety measures, or humane treatment, resulting in tragic deaths while the government remains silent.

AAP leader Priyanka Srivastava alleged a nexus between the Election Commission and the central government, claiming that the SIR process is being used to selectively remove names of Dalits, backward classes, and minority voters on a large scale—calling it a dangerous threat to India’s democratic fabric.

Sanjay Singh’s Statement

AAP MP Sanjay Singh reiterated that 26 BLOs have died during the SIR drive, and demanded both compensation and government jobs for their families. He warned that if the government fails to act, the party will intensify its protests across the state.
