Agra: The journey between Agra and Aligarh is set to become faster, safer, and far more convenient. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has begun work on the Agra–Aligarh Green Expressway, a major infrastructure project that will significantly ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time.
The 64.9 km long expressway will cut the current travel duration of 1.5 to 2 hours down to just one hour once completed. The project, with a total estimated cost of ₹1,536.9 crore, is being developed in two phases and is targeted for completion within 18 months. According to officials, the route will connect Khandouli Toll Plaza in Agra directly to NH-91, ensuring a smooth high-speed corridor.
Completion Expected by 2027
Construction is progressing on schedule, and authorities expect the expressway to be fully operational by 2027. The Green Expressway will link 66 villages across the region, enhancing rural connectivity. As part of the project, 49 foot-over bridges and underpasses will be built to ensure safe movement for residents.
Officials say the new route will not only transform transportation but also boost the region’s social and economic development.
Relief from Traffic and Fuel Savings
Project Director Sandeep Yadav said the expressway will provide major relief from traffic jams and contribute significantly to fuel savings. With improved connectivity between Agra, Aligarh, and Hathras, the route will save time and reduce vehicle operating costs.
He also assured that the green expressway design has been planned in a way that minimizes impact on surrounding greenery.
