AIMIM Slams Nitish Kumar Over Nawada Mob Lynching, Calls It “Blatant Communal Violence”

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has launched a sharp attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the brutal mob lynching of a cloth vendor in Nawada district, calling the incident a glaring example of communal violence occurring “right under the Chief Minister’s nose.”

AIMIM Bihar president and MLA Akhtarul Iman demanded immediate and stringent action in the case, questioning the state government’s commitment to its stated zero-tolerance policy on crime, communalism, and corruption. “The Chief Minister had promised that crime and communalism would not be tolerated in Bihar. If this is not communalism, then what is?” Iman asked.

“Unimaginable Brutality Against a Poor Vendor”

Speaking to a private news channel, Akhtarul Iman gave a chilling account of the incident involving Atahar, a 40–45-year-old cloth seller who had been earning his livelihood by selling garments on a bicycle for nearly two decades.

According to Iman, the incident occurred in Bhatta Par village under Roh police station limits in Nawada district when Atahar’s bicycle broke down and he was searching for a mechanic. “A group of 10–15 anti-social elements, who were warming themselves around a bonfire, first asked his name. After that, they subjected him to unimaginable brutality,” Iman alleged.

He claimed that the victim was mercilessly assaulted, his ears and nails were torn out, and extreme sexual violence was inflicted upon him using sticks and iron rods. “After being brutally tortured and set on fire, he was left in a semi-conscious state. He later succumbed to his injuries during treatment,” Iman said.

Warning of Rising Mob Lynching Trend

Drawing parallels with previous lynching cases in other parts of the country, Iman warned that Bihar could be heading down a dangerous path. “Incidents like those of Akhlaq and Pehlu Khan are now being repeated in Bihar. Will Bihar no longer remain Bihar? Will the land of Gautam Buddha replace non-violence with mob brutality?” he asked.

Demand for Speedy Trial and Accountability

The AIMIM leader demanded a fast-track trial in the case and the strictest punishment, including the death penalty, for those found guilty. He also accused the police of diluting the case by not invoking Section 103(2) related to mob lynching, alleging a larger conspiracy and administrative failure.

Iman further demanded action against erring officials, holding the district magistrate and superintendent of police accountable for the lapse.

Questions Over ‘Bulldozer Politics’

Taking a swipe at Bihar Home Minister Samrat Choudhary, Iman criticized the “bulldozer rhetoric,” saying it creates an atmosphere of fear. “If the government is serious, bulldozers should be used against illegal multi-storey buildings owned by the accused in murder cases,” he said.

AIMIM to Take Protest From Streets to Assembly

Akhtarul Iman announced that an AIMIM delegation would soon visit the incident site and later meet the Chief Minister, the Home Minister, and the Director General of Police. “This fight will be taken from the streets to the Assembly,” he asserted.

On being asked about the BJP national president hailing from Bihar, Iman termed it an internal matter of the party, but stressed that “every responsible individual in the country must work towards justice under the law and fostering an atmosphere of peace and harmony in society.”

The gruesome incident has sparked outrage and renewed debate over mob violence, communal tensions, and law enforcement accountability in Bihar.
