Gajraula, Amroha, December 12, 2025: A bizarre case has emerged from the Gajraula area of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman is insisting on living with a married temple priest. The issue escalated to the point that a local panchayat was convened, but hours of deliberation failed to produce any resolution.
Allegations and Claims
According to the woman, she had been in a long-standing relationship with the priest, who allegedly treated her like a wife and had promised to marry her. She claims that even the priest’s wife was aware of the relationship and that, for some time, both women were living with him. The dispute intensified when the priest recently refused to continue cohabiting with the woman. She also alleges that the priest had listed himself as the father on her child’s Aadhaar card.
Priest Denies Allegations
The priest, however, denied the allegations, stating that he had given the woman ₹1 lakh and that she is attempting to forcefully live with him. He asserted that he had made no marriage promise or commitment.
Panchayat Fails to Resolve Issue
As the matter spread through the locality, a panchayat was convened to mediate. Despite several hours of discussion, both parties remained steadfast in their claims, and no resolution was reached.
Police Await Formal Complaint
Inspector Manoj Kumar of the local police station stated that the matter has not yet been formally reported to them. He added that once an official complaint is filed, an investigation will be initiated, and legal action will follow as necessary.
The case, which involves a prolonged relationship between the priest and the woman alongside the priest’s marital situation, has become a topic of discussion in Gajraula, drawing attention to local social norms and legal accountability.
