Babulal Marandi Raises Jharkhand Bhawan and Police Concerns in Assembly

Ranchi, Jharkhand: Opposition leader Babulal Marandi on the fourth day of the Jharkhand Assembly winter session raised serious concerns regarding the Jharkhand Bhawan guest house in Delhi and the state’s police system.

Marandi criticized a decision by the Cabinet Secretariat, which allows only legislators’ close relatives to stay at Jharkhand Bhawan. He demanded that this policy be immediately revoked.

Guest House Register Controversy

Marandi alleged that officials Dr. Rameshwar Uraon, Alok Dubey, and Lal Kishore Nath Shahdev were wrongly classified as relatives to gain permission to stay at the guest house. He urged the Assembly Speaker to produce guest house registers for the past five years to verify who actually stayed there.

Marandi also questioned the Energy Department’s guest house in Delhi, which incurs a monthly rent of ₹5 lakh, hosts eight staff members, and has four to five official vehicles. He asked the government to clarify whether any MLA has ever stayed in this high-cost facility.

Police Vehicle Condition and Administrative Concerns

Highlighting the poor condition of state police resources, Marandi said that many police vehicles look decades old, seemingly purchased at the time of Jharkhand’s formation, and that successive governments have neglected to replace them.

Jharkhand Liquor Scam

Marandi also raised the issue of the Jharkhand liquor scam, which has reportedly caused a financial loss of ₹136 crore. He alleged that before the tender was publicly issued, a predetermined company was handed the contract to supply liquor. According to Marandi, the company was supposed to sign an agreement with JSBCL prior to supply, but the work was allocated without proper agreement, leading to massive financial losses, as per the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigation.

Babulal Marandi’s interventions in the Assembly put the spotlight on financial irregularities, administrative lapses, and transparency issues, raising critical questions for the ruling government.
