Ghaziabad: A shocking incident unfolded Monday night in the Officers City-1 Society, Rajnagar Extension, where a Bank of India branch manager fell from the 14th floor, raising questions about whether it was an accident or suicide.
Security personnel heard a loud bang around 8 PM and discovered a man lying critically injured in the society’s parking area. He was later identified as 40-year-old Rohit Batra, who served as the branch manager at Bank of India, Hapur. Batra was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Possible Suicide Note and Domestic Tensions
Rohit Batra, originally from Bulandshahr, owned a flat on the 7th floor of the society, which he had rented out and did not reside in regularly. On Monday evening, he reportedly went directly to the 14th floor, from where he fell. The exact reason for his presence on the 14th floor remains unclear.
Family members told the police that Batra had sent a suicide note via WhatsApp shortly before the incident. Using phone location data, police traced the note and Batra’s belongings, including his bag and mobile, to the 14th floor.
During questioning, the family also mentioned domestic tensions related to property disputes, which police are considering as a significant lead in the investigation.
Police Investigation Underway
According to ACP Nandgram Upasana Pandey, the police have gathered several important clues and begun a technical review of CCTV footage to determine how Batra reached the 14th floor, which routes he took, and who was around him at the time. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Society Residents Shocked
The incident has created a sense of fear and shock among the residents of the society, with many closely watching the progress of the ongoing police investigation.
