Bihar Braces for Intense Cold as December Arrives

Patna, Bihar: Bihar has started experiencing the full impact of winter, with the state witnessing a sharp drop in temperatures at the very beginning of December. While daytime temperatures remain moderately warm, nights have grown distinctly chilly, prompting residents to rely on quilts and blankets for warmth.

According to updates from the Patna Meteorological Centre, the coming days are expected to bring cold mornings and evenings, accompanied by light to moderate fog in some areas and strong western winds. Additionally, due to the influence of Cyclone Ditva, partial cloud cover is likely across the state.

Cold Spell to Continue for the Week
In Patna and surrounding cities, partly cloudy skies were observed, with daytime temperatures ranging between 27°C and 28°C. The state is likely to experience dry weather over the next seven days. During the next two mornings, light to moderate fog may reduce visibility on some roads, necessitating extra caution for commuters. Western winds are expected to blow at speeds of up to 30 km/h, intensifying the chill, especially during mornings and evenings.

Detailed Forecast for the Next Five Days
A meteorologist from the Patna weather department stated, “Maximum temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable at 24°C to 28°C during the day, providing comfortable conditions. However, minimum temperatures are predicted to drop significantly over the next 48 hours, with a fall of 2–4°C expected in many parts of Bihar, after which night temperatures will stabilize.”

Expected Temperature Range Across Bihar
In the coming days, minimum temperatures in most parts of southern, northwestern, and north-central Bihar are expected to hover between 10°C and 14°C. Afternoons will remain warm and pleasant, while mornings and nights will continue to be quite cold. Over the past 24 hours, the state recorded dry weather with no rainfall. On Monday, the highest temperature of 29.4°C was recorded in Forbesganj, while the lowest, 11.8°C, was recorded in Kishanganj. Overall, daytime temperatures across Bihar ranged between 25.6°C and 29.4°C, and nighttime temperatures varied from 11.8°C to 17.7°C. Early morning fog in Purnia reduced visibility to as low as 500 meters, and seven other districts in northern Bihar, including Siwan, Gopalganj, and Bettiah, also experienced foggy conditions.

Residents are advised to stay warm and take necessary precautions during early mornings and nights as the cold wave continues to grip the state.
