Bihar Government Schools to Launch ‘Attendance Revolution’ with Digital Tablets

Sitamarhi, Bihar: Bihar’s government schools are set to replace traditional attendance registers with a high-tech digital attendance system. The state Education Department has taken a significant step toward modernizing schools, introducing tablet-based attendance for teachers and students via the e-Shiksha Kosh portal. This move aims to curb fraudulent attendance practices and ensure accurate records.

Tablet-Based Attendance with Facial Recognition
In the coming weeks, the attendance system in schools will undergo a major transformation. Teachers will record attendance using tablets equipped with facial recognition technology, eliminating manual entries in registers. This digital system will be implemented across all government primary, middle, high, and higher secondary schools in Bihar.

Training for Teachers and Staff
To facilitate the transition, the Education Department has appointed a specialized IT agency to train school principals and designated nodal teachers. The training sessions, conducted under the guidance of the State Project Director, include online modules to ensure teachers are fully prepared. For example, on December 9, training sessions were held for schools in Nanpur, Parihar, Pupree, Rega, Runnisaidpur, Parsouni, Sonbarsa, Suppi, and Sursand. Teachers could participate using either school-provided tablets or their personal mobile devices. Additional training for schools in Bairgania, Bajpatti, Bathnaha, Belsand, Bokhara, Chorot, Dumra, and Majorganj blocks was scheduled for December 10.

Deployment of Tablets Across Schools
According to Priyadarshi Saurabh, DPO of Samagra Shiksha, the district operates 1,034 primary schools, 779 middle schools, and 286 high schools. A total of 4,501 tablets have been distributed to facilitate the new digital attendance system. School principals have been instructed to actively participate in the training sessions to ensure smooth implementation of the system in the upcoming academic session.

This ‘Attendance Revolution’ is expected to enhance transparency, reduce manual errors, and streamline record-keeping, marking a significant step toward digitization in Bihar’s education system.
