In a shocking incident from East Champaran, Bihar, a young man sold dog meat to villagers, claiming it was rabbit meat. Several villagers fell ill after consuming the meat, prompting an investigation by local authorities.
The incident occurred in the Gadhia Bazar area, where Mangru Sahni, a resident of Gadhia village, reportedly killed a dog to sell its meat. Villagers were led to believe that the meat came from freshly caught wild rabbits, locally known as “Kharha.” Mangru allegedly sold the meat at ₹1,000 per kilogram, using the earnings to fund a drinking spree.
According to local reports, Sahni had recently been released from jail. Desperate for money to buy alcohol, he hatched the scheme to deceive villagers into purchasing dog meat. The following morning, under the influence, Mangru himself confessed to the act, causing panic among the villagers.
Several villagers, including Laxmi Devi and Rampravesh Sahni, reported symptoms of food poisoning, such as vomiting and diarrhea, after consuming the meat. Subsequent inspection of nearby bushes led to the discovery of dog carcass parts, including legs and the head, confirming the villagers’ worst fears.
The local police have registered the case and are conducting a detailed investigation. “This is a highly serious and suspicious incident. We are examining all aspects thoroughly and will take strict action against the culprit once the investigation is complete,” said Gadhia Bazar Police Station In-Charge, Aditya Kumar.
The shocking case has sparked outrage in the village, raising concerns about food safety and ethical practices in meat trade. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious meat sales.
