Bulldozer Action on Wedding Hall Linked to Maulana Tauqeer’s Associate in Bareilly Violence Case

Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh: The Bareilly administration and Bareilly Development Authority (BDA) carried out a bulldozer demolition on the lavish wedding hall of Wajid Beg, an associate of Maulana Tauqeer Raza, who has been named in investigations related to recent violence in the city.

The Demolition

On Tuesday afternoon, three JCBs were deployed to demolish Wajid Beg’s 800-square-meter, two-story wedding hall, which consists of five rooms and two halls. Authorities established a security perimeter around the building, preventing any entry during the operation. The demolition team included BDA Joint Secretary Deepak Kumar, Additional District Magistrate (City) Saurabh Dubey, City Police Superintendent Manush Parik, and personnel from several police stations.

Background

The administration claims that the wedding hall was constructed five years ago without approved plans. Following the recent Bareilly violence, Wajid Beg’s name surfaced in police investigations. Consequently, the BDA had sealed the wedding hall on October 6.

Wajid Beg had challenged the action in the High Court, with the first hearing scheduled for December 16, but BDA lawyers did not appear, and the next hearing was set for January 7. Despite this, the demolition was carried out ahead of the court date.

Wajid Beg’s Response

Wajid Beg’s camp claims the action is illegal and based on false allegations. They insist that all necessary documents for the wedding hall are in order and that the demolition before the High Court hearing is unjustified. Wajid also denied any involvement of his brother in the violence.

Links to Maulana Tauqeer

Wajid Beg is known to be close to Maulana Tauqeer Raza, who is currently in jail in connection with the Bareilly violence. Maulana Tauqeer faces 11 cases related to violence, some of which have already been granted bail, while others are pending.

The High Court will be updated on the entire situation on January 7, when the next hearing is scheduled.
