Jaipur: Public outrage continues to grow over the tragic death of 9-year-old Amayra, a fourth-grade student at Neerja Modi School, who jumped from the school’s fourth floor on 1 November. Following the CBSE’s investigation, which found serious lapses on the part of the school management, a candle march was held on 22 November at Jaipur’s Shaheed Smarak, drawing thousands of concerned citizens.
CBSE Finds Negligence
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a Show Cause Notice to Neerja Modi School after uncovering multiple lapses, including bullying, ignored safety protocols, and overall administrative negligence. The school has been given 30 days to respond. Failure to provide a satisfactory explanation could result in warnings, fines, suspension of affiliation, or even cancellation of recognition under Chapter 12 of the CBSE regulations.
Massive Public Response
The candle march witnessed a large turnout, including emotional parents, teachers, and students, all united in demanding justice and stricter safety measures for children in schools. Many attendees, especially women, were seen wiping away tears as they paid tribute to the young girl.
Family Speaks Out
Amayra’s mother, Shivani, and her maternal uncle, Sahil, addressed the media during the march. They expressed disappointment with the school administration, saying that the CBSE report highlighted serious lapses, yet the school had not changed its attitude. Sahil emphasized that the family now looks to the state government, police, and central authorities for justice.
Next Steps
All eyes are now on the school’s response to the CBSE notice. Depending on the reply, authorities could initiate disciplinary action, including revoking the school’s affiliation. The tragedy has reignited calls for strict enforcement of child safety regulations in schools across the state.
