Mount Abu (Sirohi): Rajasthan’s only hill station, Mount Abu, is reeling under an intense cold wave as temperatures continue to plunge sharply. With the sky remaining absolutely clear for the past three days, the minimum temperature dipped further on Wednesday, settling at a bone-chilling 4°C. The icy winds sweeping across the region have intensified the cold, making the weather visibly harsh. The Meteorological Department had already issued a cold wave alert for the entire state earlier in the day.
Tourists Seen in Multiple Layers of Woollens
At popular tourist points, including the picturesque Nakki Lake, visitors were spotted wrapped in two sweaters, heavy jackets, and woollen mufflers to shield themselves from the biting cold. Many tourists described this as their first-ever experience of such extreme winter in Mount Abu. Several of them said that the chill becomes even harsher after sunset, making it nearly impossible to step out without proper winter clothing.
Temperature Drop in Just 72 Hours
According to the Met Department, Mount Abu recorded a minimum temperature of 11°C on Monday, which dropped to 6°C on Tuesday, followed by another steep fall of 2 degrees within the next 24 hours. The temperature touched 4°C on Wednesday, marking one of the season’s coldest mornings so far. Weather experts predict that the mercury is likely to fall even further in the coming days, pushing the winter towards its peak.
Frost Likely if Mercury Approaches Freezing Point
Officials noted that if temperatures continue their downward trend and move closer to the freezing point, residents and tourists may witness frost deposition on car windshields, tree leaves, and winter grass—an occasional sight in Mount Abu during extreme cold spells.
While the biting chill has added a sense of thrill and adventure for visiting tourists, it has simultaneously posed challenges for local residents, who are struggling with the rapidly intensifying winter.
