Rajkot:
A shocking revelation has emerged from Gujarat’s Veraval, where police have arrested a hospital compounder in connection with the death of a 50-year-old woman who ran a provision store. During interrogation, the accused confessed not only to killing the woman but also admitted to murdering his friend four months earlier.
According to police, the accused Shyam Chauhan used medical sedatives to drug both victims before strangling them and stealing their jewellery and cash. Investigations are currently underway.
Murder of Shop Owner on November 11
The latest victim, Bhavana Chandragra, was found dead on November 11. After killing her, the accused locked the house from outside, which raised suspicion. Police found a needle mark on her hand and a broken vial of an injection outside the house. Her gold ornaments were missing, prompting police to alert gold finance companies, anticipating an attempt to sell the stolen jewellery.
Debt Triggered the Murder
Girish Somnath SP Jaydeepsinh Jadeja told The Times of India that the accused had borrowed a gold chain from his friend during the Diwali season. He later pawned it at a gold finance company for ₹70,000, which he completely spent on personal expenses.
Unable to repay the loan, Shyam allegedly killed the woman and stole her jewellery to arrange the money.
Accused Also Confesses to Killing His Friend
During questioning, Shyam confessed without hesitation that he had also murdered his close friend Abhishek in July. With basic medical training up to Class 10 and experience as a compounder at DK Barad Hospital, he was skilled in injecting drugs, drawing blood samples, administering IV fluids and handling medical tests — expertise he allegedly misused to commit the murders.
Police say the investigation will now focus on recovering stolen jewellery, verifying the accused’s full crime trail, and determining whether he was involved in any other similar offences.
