Delhi Student Suicide: Parents Stage Protest Outside St. Columbus School Demanding Justice

New Delhi: The grief and anger of a bereaved family have echoed outside St. Columbus School, as the parents and elder brother of a Class 10 student who died by suicide continue their protest, demanding justice for their child. The demonstration, which started on 18 November, has now entered its fourth day, highlighting concerns over alleged harassment by school staff.

Showcasing the Child’s Achievements
Holding their child’s medals, trophies, and certificates, the father described the deceased as talented, cheerful, and ambitious. “Look at his achievements. It is unbelievable that one child could accomplish so much. He wanted to make a mark in the world,” the father said, emphasizing that the student’s potential was cut short due to repeated harassment.

Allegations Against Teachers
Police have already questioned two teachers named in the student’s suicide note. The note accused them of continuous mental harassment, which allegedly forced the student to take such a drastic step. Further questioning of two other teachers is planned. An FIR was registered on 18 November for abetment to suicide.

Protests and Public Outcry
Parents and students have taken their demand for justice beyond the school, extending their protest to prominent locations, including Jantar Mantar. Classmates of the deceased also participated, recounting how teachers publicly humiliated and intimidated the student, showing no empathy even when he cried.

Authorities Involved
The Delhi Directorate of Education submitted its committee report on Monday. The High Court’s Child Safety Monitoring Committee also visited the school to conduct a separate inquiry. The student’s family met with Joint CP Milind Dumbre, who assured them that every aspect of the case is under thorough investigation.

The family and supporters continue to demand strict legal action and dismissal of the teachers responsible for the alleged harassment that led to the tragic suicide.
