Sikar, Rajasthan: The long-awaited dream of starting air taxi services from Sikar’s Tarpura airstrip has hit a roadblock. In response to a question raised by Sikar MP Amraram in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murli Dhar Mohol, clarified that there is currently no plan to commence flights from Tarpura. He also stated that no proposal for upgrading the airstrip has been received by the government so far.
MP Raises Question in Lok Sabha
MP Amraram had submitted a written question to the central government regarding the possibility of upgrading the Tarpura airstrip to start air taxi services, aimed at boosting tourism in the Shekhawati region. However, the government’s response dashed hopes of initiating flights anytime soon.
Government’s 5-Step Procedure Remains Pending
Minister Mohol explained that the government follows a 5-step procedure to commence air services from new airstrips. Yet, no proposal for Tarpura’s upgrade has been submitted, making it impossible to start flights or air taxi services from the location at this stage.
Decade-Long Demand Still Unfulfilled
The demand for limited flight services from Tarpura airstrip has been growing for over a decade. Political leaders have repeatedly promised air taxi services during campaigns and public events, but so far, these aspirations have remained limited to announcements and preliminary surveys. With the government’s recent response in the Lok Sabha, the long-held hopes of Shekhawati residents remain unfulfilled.
