Elderly Couple Brutally Beaten to Death Over Slipper Dispute in Jharkhand, Panchayat Fine Sparks Outrage

Chaibasa, Jharkhand: In a shocking incident in Lipunga village of West Singhbhum district, an elderly couple was brutally murdered with an iron rod, sparking fear and outrage in the community. The victims, 72-year-old Sargia Balmuchu and his 65-year-old wife Mukta Balmuchu, were found bloodied on a cot in their courtyard on Tuesday morning. Villagers, alarmed by the silence, discovered their lifeless bodies and informed the police immediately.

Rumors of Witchcraft Debunked
Initially, rumors linking the killings to witchcraft or black magic circulated in the village, creating panic. However, Guva Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nitish Kumar dismissed such speculations. A detailed investigation revealed that the murder stemmed from a long-standing personal feud triggered by a seemingly minor incident.

Slipper Dispute and Panchayat Fine
According to police, the conflict originated a few days earlier when a young villager, Jangam Balmuchu, had a disagreement over a broken slipper. The local panchayat had imposed a fine on the elderly couple on Sunday over this dispute. Police suspect that the accused, angered by the unpaid fine and escalating tensions, executed the brutal double murder in an act of revenge.

Police Action and Village Tension
Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, while police have identified potential suspects and launched raids for their arrest. The horrifying double murder has left Lipunga village tense, with fear, anger, and shock permeating the community. Villagers have raised serious concerns about social order and safety. The local administration has deployed additional forces and urged residents to maintain peace.
