A tragic incident in Bihar’s capital, Patna, has triggered widespread alarm after a structural collapse at the Patliputra Sports Complex (Rainbow Ground) claimed the life of an engineer from Andhra Pradesh. The accident has now been officially termed the “Kankarbagh Gate Collapse Case”, and a detailed investigation is underway.
Main Gate Collapses, Engineer Killed on the Spot
According to officials, the main rear gate of the sports complex suddenly collapsed on Wednesday morning, trapping the engineer under heavy debris. The victim, identified as Sreemurthy, was serving as the site supervisor for ongoing construction work at Rainbow Ground. He hailed from Andhra Pradesh.
A security guard on duty immediately alerted senior officials around 6:15 AM, following which officers rushed to the spot. They found the engineer lying unconscious under the collapsed structure.
He was immediately taken to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Construction Work Was Under Execution
The construction project was being undertaken by the Bihar State Building Construction Corporation Limited (BSBCCL) and executed by M/s Rahul Trading. As site supervisor, Sreemurthy was responsible for overseeing daily activities at the location.
Officials report that the collapsed rear gate was still under construction, and early indications point toward structural weakness as a possible cause of the mishap.
Police and Technical Teams Begin Deep Investigation
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the collapse. Patna Police, forensic experts, and engineering teams have begun a comprehensive probe to determine whether negligence or faulty construction led to the fatal accident.
Ravindran Shankaran, the Director General and CEO of the Bihar State Sports Authority, has submitted a detailed incident report to the Additional Chief Secretary of the Sports Department. All legal formalities have been initiated.
The victim’s family has been informed, and they are expected to arrive in Patna soon.
Workers Demand Compensation for Deceased Engineer
In the aftermath of the accident, construction workers associated with the project demanded adequate compensation for the engineer’s family. Meanwhile, authorities have assured transparency and strict action based on investigation findings.
The tragic incident has raised serious concerns about safety standards and monitoring in ongoing infrastructure projects across the state.
