Experience the Himalayas This Winter: PM Modi Encourages Citizens to Explore Uttarakhand

Dehradun: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Sunday broadcast of the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program, highlighted Uttarakhand’s winter tourism and urged citizens to experience the Himalayan valleys during the colder months.

Devoting around two and a half minutes to the state, Modi spoke about Uttarakhand’s potential for winter tourism, adventure sports, and wedding destinations. He noted that winter tourism is increasingly attracting visitors, with destinations like Auli, Munsiyari, Dayara, and Chopta becoming particularly popular.

High-Altitude Ultra Marathon Draws Enthusiasts
The Prime Minister also mentioned the state’s first ‘High Altitude Ultra Run Marathon’ held at Adi Kailash, Pithoragarh, situated at over 14,500 feet. Despite the freezing 5 a.m. temperatures, more than 750 athletes from 18 states participated in the 60-kilometer event. He highlighted that just three years ago, only 2,000 visitors traveled to Adi Kailash annually, while today, this number has surged to over 30,000.

Uttarakhand: A Winter Wedding Destination
Modi praised the state’s efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure and connectivity. He noted that the golden winter sunshine and misty Himalayan mornings have also made Uttarakhand an attractive wedding destination, particularly along the banks of the Ganga.

A Personal Invitation to Explore the Himalayas
Addressing citizens directly, the Prime Minister said that the valleys of the Himalayas offer an unforgettable experience during winter. He encouraged travelers to include these Himalayan landscapes in their winter plans. Modi’s earlier visits, including last year to Mukhba village in Uttarkashi and Adi Kailash, have spurred a significant rise in tourism and pilgrimage activities across the state.
