According to Sihani Gate Police Station SHO, the crash took place around 3 am. The car, travelling at high speed, suddenly veered off course, broke through the flyover’s iron railing, and fell into the void below.
The victims were identified as Rakesh, a resident of Jagrati Vihar, Sanjay Nagar Sector-23, and his son Prince, who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. Rakesh was seated in the front passenger seat.
Father Succumbs to Injuries, Son Out of Danger
Police and local passersby rushed to the spot immediately after the crash and pulled both occupants from the severely damaged vehicle. They were taken to Yashoda Hospital, where doctors tried to save Rakesh, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Prince is currently undergoing medical care and is reported to be stable.
Police: Fatigue Driving a Rising Cause of Night-Time Crashes
Officials said preliminary investigation points to micro-sleep as the likely cause of the accident. They added that fatigue during late-night long drives has become a major reason behind several recent road mishaps.
The SHO confirmed that further legal proceedings and technical examinations of the vehicle and crash site are underway.
