Haryana DGP Orders Strict Action Against Singers Promoting Gun Culture

Chandigarh: In a decisive move to curb the rising influence of gun culture among youth, Haryana Police Chief DGP O.P. Singh has directed authorities to treat singers promoting gangster lifestyles and firearms as criminal offenders rather than artists.

Crackdown on Controversial Haryanvi Songs

DGP Singh’s order comes in the wake of increasing popularity of songs glorifying gangsters, violence, and firearms, which are believed to negatively influence young listeners. The Haryana government has already banned around 30 songs by nine singers who have been identified as promoting such content. Notable names include Masoom Sharma, Gajendra Phogat, Amit Saini, Sumit Parta, Harsh Sandhu, Ankit Balayan, and Kulbir Danoda.

Government Measures

To discourage the promotion of gangster lifestyles, the state government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) that has conducted multiple meetings with artists. DGP Singh issued a letter to police officials ranging from station in-charges to ADGP-ranked officers, emphasizing that singers often glorify criminal behavior for money, influence, and status, which can undo the moral and social teachings imparted by families, teachers, and society.

Monitoring and Enforcement

Haryana Police began targeting such songs earlier this year, focusing on media platforms, social media, and music outlets where these songs are disseminated. The move seeks to curb the promotion of violence, hatred, and gun culture in society.

Operation Trackdown: Results So Far

Under the ongoing Operation Trackdown, launched in November across Haryana, authorities have arrested 4,566 offenders. Of these, 1,439 were high-profile criminals involved in serious offenses, while 3,127 others were arrested for various other crimes. On 21 November, the police apprehended 47 notorious criminals and 293 additional suspects, further demonstrating the government’s commitment to public safety and law enforcement.

DGP Singh reaffirmed that any individual promoting violent and criminal lifestyles through media or music will face strict legal action, sending a clear message to those attempting to influence the youth negatively.
