Chandigarh/Haryana: In a swift and decisive operation, the Haryana Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) arrested five armed robbers traveling in a Haryana Roadways bus on the Chandigarh-Ambala Highway, near Palm Resort. The accused were involved in a daring ₹80 lakh robbery in Karnal earlier that morning.
Details of the Karnal Heist
The incident took place in Karnal district, where the gang allegedly raided a house preparing for a wedding. The robbers held the family at gunpoint for around 45 minutes, forcibly taking jewelry and cash kept aside for the wedding. During the robbery, the groom tried to resist, and the assailants shot him. The gang also fired five rounds while fleeing the scene.
Caught in a Planned Trap
Acting on a tip-off, the Haryana CIA laid a trap near Palm Resort. As a Haryana Roadways bus, carrying the robbers, passed through, officers intercepted the vehicle and apprehended all five suspects. A search recovered a pistol and other items from their possession.
Identities of the Arrested
The accused have been identified as Rajeev (alias Raja), Deepak (alias Harry), Prince Kumar, Amritpal, and Abhishek, all residents of Ludhiana. They are currently in the custody of Karnal Civil Lines Police Station, where cases have been registered under IPC sections 310(2), 311, 109, 333, 135, and relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
Chase and Capture
After committing the robbery, the gang initially fled in a car but abandoned it within Haryana, boarding a Roadways bus toward Chandigarh. The police tracked the suspects within three hours and, with support from the CIA in the Derabassi-Zirakpur area, successfully carried out the arrest.
This operation demonstrates Haryana Police’s prompt action and coordination, preventing the gang from fleeing with the stolen valuables.
