High-Speed Tyre Burst Triggers Deadly Head-On Collision in Jodhpur, Grandfather and Grandson Killed, Seven Injured

A tragic road accident on National Highway-125 (Jodhpur–Pokaran road) in the Setrawa area of Phalodi claimed the lives of a grandfather and his grandson after a high-speed Maruti Suzuki Alto suffered a tyre burst and collided head-on with an oncoming Kia car on Saturday.

The accident occurred near Bawkan Talab when the Alto, travelling at a high speed, reportedly attempted sudden braking. During this maneuver, one of its front tyres burst, causing the vehicle to lose control and veer into the wrong lane, where it crashed violently into a Kia coming from the opposite direction.

Following the collision, the front portion of the Alto caught fire, creating panic at the scene. Alert villagers, passers-by, and police personnel acted swiftly and managed to douse the flames using sand and water. Despite their efforts, the front section of the car was completely gutted.

Grandfather Dies on the Spot, Grandson Succumbs En Route

The Alto was carrying members of a family from Chandhan village in Jaisalmer district. The deceased have been identified as Sagtaram (son of Multanararam Kumawat), who died on the spot, and his grandson Dinesh (son of Ganpataram), who succumbed to his injuries while being referred to Jodhpur, near Agolai.

Other occupants of the Alto, including Harish alias Hariram and Sonu, sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at MDM Hospital in Jodhpur. Post-mortem examinations of the deceased will be conducted before the bodies are handed over to their families.

Seven Injured, Including Women and Children

The Kia car was carrying a family from Barar village in Rajsamand district, returning after visiting Ramdevra temple. Pradeep Soni, his father Kaluram, mother Lakshmi, and son Anurag were seriously injured and referred to Jodhpur for advanced medical care. Pradeep’s wife Gayatri and son Aditya received treatment at Setrawa hospital.

Police Investigation Underway

Preliminary investigation confirms that the accident was caused by a tyre burst due to high speed, leading to loss of control of the Alto. Police have seized both vehicles and initiated a detailed investigation into the incident.

The tragic accident once again highlights the dangers of overspeeding on highways and the critical importance of vehicle maintenance to prevent such fatal mishaps.
