Jaipur Chomu Violence: Dispute Over Mosque Railing Escalates into Stone Pelting

Jaipur: A seemingly minor dispute over stones outside a mosque in Chomu, Jaipur, escalated into violence, leaving residents and authorities shocked. The incident highlights how quickly local disagreements can spiral out of control.

What Happened in Chomu?

The controversy began over the removal of large stones placed outside a mosque along the roadside. The stones had been obstructing traffic for a long time, raising concerns about accidents. On Thursday, 25 December, the local administration held a meeting with community representatives, including members of the mosque’s management, to discuss the removal. Following an agreement, the municipal team started clearing the stones early Friday morning.

From Dispute to Violence

At around 3 AM, while the removal was underway, some locals objected to the work and began arguing with the administration and police. What started as a verbal dispute quickly escalated. Reports indicate that certain anti-social elements began pelting stones at the police, forcing them to respond with tear gas shells and a mild baton charge to control the situation.

Precautionary Measures

To prevent further escalation, authorities temporarily suspended internet services in the area. Despite the tension, the administration emphasized that the removal of the stones was necessary to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow.

The incident has drawn attention across Jaipur, raising concerns about communal harmony and the challenges faced by municipal authorities in enforcing public safety measures.
