A shocking incident of domestic violence has emerged from Tikra village under the Bithoor police station area of Kanpur district, where a woman allegedly hacked her husband to death with an axe after an argument late Wednesday night.
According to police, the couple had been drinking alcohol together when a dispute broke out between them. The argument soon turned violent, during which the wife allegedly lost control and attacked her husband repeatedly with an axe kept inside the house. The victim suffered more than ten deep injuries to the head, as confirmed by the post-mortem report.
The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Pappu, a tiles and stone worker by profession. He was rushed to a private hospital in critical condition and later referred to Hallet Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Thursday.
In an apparent attempt to mislead the family, the accused woman reportedly informed her in-laws that Pappu had been injured in a road accident. She also tried to clean the bloodstains from the house before police arrived. However, medical examination and forensic evidence revealed that the injuries were caused by sharp and heavy weapons, ruling out any possibility of an accident.
Soon after receiving news of her husband’s death, the woman fled the village along with her four-year-old son. A case of murder has been registered against her, and police teams have been deployed to trace her whereabouts.
Police officials stated that the nature of the injuries and the circumstances clearly indicate a premeditated murder rather than an accidental act. DCP West Dinesh Tripathi confirmed that both husband and wife were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
The victim’s mother alleged that the accused had a history of violent behavior and frequent disputes, adding that ongoing family conflicts had forced her and other family members to live separately for the past several years.
Police said further legal action will be taken based on the family’s complaint, and efforts are underway to arrest the accused woman at the earliest.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, once again highlighting the dangers of domestic violence and substance abuse.
