Karni Sena Leader Threatens Punjab Governor Over Controversial Statement on Maharana Pratap

Jaipur/Udaipur, 26 Dec 2025: Raj Singh Shekhawat, founder of the Karni Sena, has issued a threatening social media post targeting Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. Shekhawat’s anger stems from a statement made by the Governor on 22 December during a foundation stone-laying ceremony in Dhuli Valley, Gogunda, Udaipur, regarding Maharana Pratap.

In his post, Shekhawat called on Karni Sena members to take action against Kataria, saying, “Wherever this person is seen, deal with him there.” Several members of the Karni Sena have expressed support for Shekhawat’s stance. Following the post, Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal confirmed that the police are investigating the matter.

The Controversial Statement
Governor Kataria had claimed that Maharana Pratap’s name was heard mainly during Congress rule and credited the Janata Party for “reviving” the legacy of Maharana Pratap by sending development funds to Gogunda when Bhura Bhai first became an MLA. This comment sparked outrage among the Karni Sena, which viewed the statement as a disrespect to the pride of Mewar.

Historical Context of Controversy
This is not the first time Kataria has faced backlash for comments on Maharana Pratap. In 2020, during a public rally in Rajsamand, he made objectionable remarks about the historical figure, leading to widespread protests. The Governor had to apologize thrice to quell the controversy at the time.

The Karni Sena’s response underscores the sensitivity surrounding historical and cultural figures in Rajasthan politics, with Raj Singh Shekhawat taking a particularly strong stance against what he perceives as an insult to Mewar’s legacy.
