Chandigarh: Luck smiled on a Ludhiana woman in Punjab after she won ₹3 crore in the Punjab State Lottery Diwali Bumper 2025. In a heartwarming twist, the woman had purchased the tickets for her daughter’s birthday, even pledging her jewelry to afford them.
A Life-Changing Win
The woman, a resident of Bansi village in Ludhiana, bought four lottery tickets for ₹2,000 each on 10 November. Twelve days later, she received the life-changing news: one of her tickets had hit the bumper prize of ₹3 crore. Overcome with joy and emotion, tears welled up in her eyes as she celebrated her good fortune.
From Struggle to Hope
Maheshwari Sahni, the lottery winner, works as a domestic helper and has faced personal hardships, including a divorce and the loss of her son. She lives with her daughter and her parents. Sharing her excitement, she said, “I bought the lottery tickets for my daughter’s birthday. This luck has changed our lives. Now I can ensure a bright future for my daughter and give her the education she deserves.”
A Remarkable Gesture
Maheshwari revealed that she had little money to gift her daughter. Following her daughter’s insistence, she invested ₹8,000 by pledging her jewelry to buy the four tickets. On 22 November, she discovered that one ticket had won the bumper prize. Reflecting on her experience, she advised, “Gambling is not the solution, but sometimes giving luck a chance can be worthwhile.”
Lottery Fever in Punjab
This win comes days after vegetable vendor Amit Sehra from Jaipur won ₹11 crore in the same lottery, borrowing money from a friend to try his luck. Sehra had promised to repay one crore to his friend after his win, highlighting the transformative power of luck and timing.
Maheshwari’s story now inspires many, demonstrating how courage, hope, and a bit of luck can change lives overnight.
