Man Claims Possession of Prophet Muhammad’s Hair, Tricks Mumbai Women of ₹11 Lakh in Jewelry and Cash

Mumbai: The Mahim police have registered a case involving a bizarre and elaborate fraud. The accused, 31-year-old Abdul Sattar Qadri, allegedly claimed to be a descendant of Prophet Muhammad and used this claim to deceive two women, tricking them out of jewelry and cash worth approximately ₹11 lakh.

According to authorities, the complaint was filed by local resident Ansar Ahmed Abdul Ghani. Police reports reveal that in 2022, the complainant and his brother Israr Farooqui met Qadri at a dargah in South Mumbai. During conversations, Qadri claimed he possessed a strand of the Prophet’s hair.

The Fraud Scheme
Qadri was later invited to the brothers’ residence in Mahim, where he presented a hair in a glass jar, asserting it belonged to Prophet Muhammad. Following certain rituals conducted at the home, Qadri placed the jar in a wardrobe, instructing the brothers not to open it until he gave permission.

A few days later, when the brothers were away, Qadri returned and met their wives. He persuaded them to place all their jewelry near the jar, promising that the valuables would “double” in quantity and bring more money into the household.

Jewelry and Cash Stolen
Once the women left the home as instructed, Qadri allegedly removed approximately ₹11 lakh worth of jewelry and cash from the wardrobe and fled. The fraud came to light when the victims reported the incident to their husbands.

The Mahim police are actively searching for Abdul Sattar Qadri, who is now wanted under charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust. Investigations are ongoing.
