Minor Dies After Drowning in Well; Father Booked for Negligence

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: A tragic incident in Maholi village has left the community in shock after a 15-year-old boy drowned in a well on his family’s agricultural land. The Gunga police have filed an FIR against the boy’s father for negligence, as the well lacked basic safety measures.

Details of the Incident

The deceased has been identified as Amit Ahirwar, a resident of Maholi village. On December 6, Amit was attempting to fill an engine with water from a partially constructed well on his father Dinesh Ahirwar’s property. During the process, his foot slipped, causing him to fall into the well and drown.

The family rushed Amit to Hamidia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical professionals.

Cause of the Accident

Police investigations revealed that the well was uncemented and had no boundary wall or safety enclosure, which contributed directly to the accident. Due to this lack of basic protective measures, the minor was at risk while performing routine chores.

Legal Action

Following the investigation, the police registered a case of negligence against Amit’s father, who also owns the well. Authorities emphasized that property owners must ensure proper safety arrangements around wells to prevent such unfortunate incidents.

This heartbreaking case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety measures around water bodies, especially in rural areas where children frequently access wells for household or agricultural purposes.
