MP Makes a Splash in IPL 2026: 12 Players Selected, Venkatesh Iyer Bought for ₹7 Crore, Truck Driver’s Son Mangesh Yadav Shines

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: Madhya Pradesh (MP) is set to make a historic impact in IPL 2026, with 12 players from the state securing contracts in the upcoming season. The IPL auction saw prices ranging from ₹30 lakh to ₹7 crore, with Indore’s Venkatesh Iyer being the most expensive, bought for ₹7 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Among the new stars is Mangesh Yadav, the son of a truck driver, whose remarkable performance in the MP League earned him a coveted IPL slot.

Strong MP Representation in RCB
RCB has roped in three players from MP: Indore captain Rajat Patidar, experienced all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer, and young all-rounder Mangesh Yadav from Chhindwara. These selections strengthen the team’s connection with Madhya Pradesh cricket, as these players have been integral to the state side for several years.

Venkatesh Iyer Secures Top Price
Venkatesh Iyer, previously bought for ₹23.75 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders, was acquired by RCB for ₹7 crore this season. Despite the drop in price, his experience and prior performances are expected to be crucial for the team.

MP Players Shine in IPL Mini-Auction
The mini-auction highlighted MP talent, giving opportunities to previously uncapped players. Shivang Kumar was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for ₹30 lakh, while Akshat Raghuvanshi will play for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Mangesh Yadav’s consistent wicket-taking ability in the 2025 MP League with Gwalior Cheetahs impressed scouts and secured him a spot in RCB.

MPL Impact Evident
The influence of the Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) was clear in the auction. Strong performances in domestic cricket paved the way for IPL debuts for uncapped players like Akshat Raghuvanshi and Shivang Kumar. Experienced MP players like Avesh Khan (LSG) and Aniket Verma (SRH) will mentor the new talent, enhancing team strength.

Family Celebrates Shivang Kumar’s Achievement
Shivang Kumar, who showcased his talent with Bhopal Leopards in MPL 2025, hit 91 runs in just 42 balls and impressed with his disciplined left-arm chinaman bowling. On the auction day, when his name appeared on the screen as SRH’s acquisition, his family erupted in joy, marking a proud moment.

Looking Ahead
With his debut, Shivang Kumar is ready to share the dressing room with stars like Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. His goal is not just to survive in IPL’s glittering spotlight but to establish a name and prove that a boy from Madhya Pradesh can turn promise into performance.
