Patna: Businessman Receives Threat Calls Demanding ₹2 Crore, Abduction Warning Issued in MLA’s Name; Police Begin Tracing Calls

Patna: A battery trader in Bihar’s capital has allegedly received multiple threat calls demanding ₹2 crore in extortion, with the caller claiming to be associated with a local MLA and threatening to kidnap the businessman’s child if the money was not paid. The case has triggered swift action from the police, who have begun tracing the calls.

Threat Issued in MLA’s Name
The victim, Ashish Srivastava of Munnachak, approached the police after repeated threatening calls. According to officials, the caller invoked the name of an MLA—whose identity police have withheld for now—and warned of severe consequences, including abducting Ashish’s child, if the extortion demand was ignored.

Inspector Roshni Kumari confirmed that an investigation is underway and said further details will be shared only after primary verification. The case is currently being handled by the Chitragupt Nagar Police Station.

First Call Received on Sunday
According to a report published on a web portal, DSP (Sadar-1) Ranjan Kumar stated that the first extortion call came to Ashish’s phone on Sunday. He initially informed the matter to the Journalist Nagar Police Station, but the case was transferred due to jurisdiction. Police teams are now working to identify the caller and confirm the political name being used in the threats.

Pattern of Repeated Threat Calls
The complaint details a pattern of suspicious calls over several days. Ashish’s father, Surendra Kumar Sinha, first received a mysterious call on November 16 but dismissed it as a wrong number. On November 22, the calls intensified, with the caller threatening to kidnap Sinha’s son.

On November 23, the caller contacted Ashish directly, identifying himself as Sumit Singh, and said:
“If you are building a mall near Saguna Mor, give ₹2 crore. If you don’t pay, I will kill you.”

Despite Ashish repeatedly clarifying that he only deals in batteries and spare parts, the caller continued issuing threats.

Continuous Threat Calls from Multiple Numbers
Sources said Ashish has been receiving calls from different mobile numbers. He informed the police that on Monday alone, he received two calls at 3:45 pm and 3:49 pm from new numbers. Although the calls have momentarily stopped, the family remains in fear.

Police are actively working on tracing the numbers and verifying the claims made by the caller. Further updates are expected after initial leads are confirmed.
