Patna Vigilance Court Sentences Jakkanpur ASI to 3 Years in Jail for Bribery; 5-Year-Old Case Proven True

Patna: A vigilance court in Patna on Thursday convicted and sentenced Amarjeet Kumar, the then Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Jakkanpur police station, to three years of rigorous imprisonment in a five-year-old bribery case. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the officer after the charges were proven true.

According to vigilance officials, the case dates back to 2016, when the ASI had allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 from a complainant in exchange for writing the case diary in his favour. The complainant accused the officer of not only demanding illegal gratification but also harassing him during the process.

The vigilance team had registered a corruption case after verifying the complaint. During the hearing, the prosecution successfully established that the ASI had misused his position for personal gain.

Delivering the verdict, the vigilance court held Amarjeet Kumar guilty under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and awarded him three years of rigorous imprisonment.

Vigilance Director-General Jitendra Singh Gangwar stated that this is one of the 25 corruption cases in which convictions have been secured in 2025, reflecting the department’s continued crackdown on corrupt officials.

The sentencing has once again put a spotlight on corruption within the police force, coming close on the heels of recent disciplinary action against officers of the Nadi police station for misconduct.
