Ranchi: In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, Ranchi Police have busted a major brown sugar gang, arresting eight people, including a woman. Authorities seized 202 grams of brown sugar, cannabis, and cash amounting to ₹2.4 lakh, with the street value of the narcotics estimated at ₹21.5 lakh.
Arrested Accused
The arrested individuals include Amit Kumar Gupta, Mukesh Kumar Yadav, Munna Yadav, Cheeku Yadav, Syed Sameer, Deepak Kumar, Raju Kumar, and Baby Parveen.
Initial Raids Lead to Major Seizure
According to Rural SP Praveen Pushkar, the police received a tip-off about drug trafficking near IICM Maidan, following which a raid was conducted and four individuals arrested with brown sugar and cannabis. Acting on their information, police raided the house of Syed Sameer in Jaipur village, recovering 105 grams of brown sugar, cash of ₹81,000, and other items.
Ranchi Supplier Raju Arrested
Following further investigation, police arrested Deepak Kumar, who led them to Raju Kumar, a key brown sugar supplier operating between Patna and Ranchi. Baby Parveen, Sameer’s wife, was also taken into custody; she has a history of three previous imprisonments for drug trafficking yet remained involved in the business.
Action Against Narcotic Syrup Sellers
In a related action, two individuals selling narcotic syrup through fast-food outlets in Ranchi were arrested following multiple complaints from the Bariatu police station area. The accused, Tutu Kumar Saw and Lechu Mahto, operated food outlets and were caught with 20 bottles of narcotic syrup. Both have a prior criminal history and two registered cases.
City SP Paras Rana stated, “These coordinated actions are part of our continuous effort to curb drug distribution in Ranchi and ensure the safety of citizens.”
The Ranchi police crackdown highlights their persistent drive against illegal drug networks, targeting both large-scale traffickers and local distributors.
