In a shocking incident highlighting the growing audacity of the sand mafia, miscreants attacked a senior administrative officer in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district. Lahar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vijay Yadav narrowly escaped serious injury after his official vehicle was deliberately rammed while he was attempting to stop illegal sand transportation.
The incident occurred on the Mihona bypass, where illegal and overloaded sand was being transported using tractor-trolleys. Acting on specific information, SDM Vijay Yadav personally reached the spot to initiate action against the violators. However, instead of complying with official orders, one of the tractor drivers adopted an aggressive stance and intentionally crashed his vehicle into the SDM’s government car in an apparent attempt to evade action.
The impact of the collision caused significant damage to the official vehicle, though the SDM escaped unhurt by a narrow margin. The tractor driver fled the scene immediately after the attack, underscoring the lawlessness with which sand mafias continue to operate in the region.
Upon receiving information, Mihona police station in-charge Vijay Cain rushed to the spot along with a police force. A revenue department team also arrived to assess the situation. Police inspected the damaged vehicle and questioned local residents to piece together the sequence of events.
An FIR has been registered under multiple sections, including illegal sand transportation, overloading, damage to government property, obstruction of official duty, and other relevant provisions of law. A search operation has been launched to apprehend the absconding driver and those linked to the sand mafia.
This attack marks yet another assault on government officials in Bhind district. In the past, personnel from the mining department and police inspectors have also been targeted by sand mafias, raising serious concerns about the safety of officials enforcing the law.
The incident has once again exposed the deep-rooted menace of illegal sand mining and transportation in the district. The district administration has asserted that the crackdown on illegal sand operations will continue unabated and that those involved, regardless of influence, will face strict legal action.
Authorities have reiterated that attacks on government officials will not be tolerated and warned that stringent measures will be taken to dismantle the sand mafia network operating in the region.
