Seven Sacred Vows and ‘Qubool Hai’ Under One Roof: Saharanpur Witnesses 284 Hindu–Muslim Weddings in a Rare Display of Harmony

In a powerful display of communal harmony and social unity, Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district witnessed a unique and heartwarming scene under the Chief Minister’s Mass Marriage Scheme, where 284 couples—belonging to both Hindu and Muslim communities—tied the knot together in a single grand ceremony.

The event sent out a strong message of brotherhood and coexistence as Hindu marriages and Muslim nikahs were solemnized simultaneously under one pandal. On one side, the air resonated with Vedic chants as couples took the seven sacred vows around the holy fire, while on the other, the solemn words of nikah qubool echoed, lending a spiritual and inclusive character to the occasion.

Religious leaders from both communities conducted the ceremonies according to their respective traditions. Pandits performed Hindu rituals, while Maulvis officiated nikahs. From the stage, both praised the government initiative, calling it a meaningful step towards strengthening social bonds and mutual trust. Speakers emphasized that such events reflect the true spirit of India, where unity thrives amid diversity.

Joy was evident on the faces of the newlyweds and their families. Many couples described the day as unforgettable, as hundreds of families came together to celebrate happiness collectively. As part of the scheme, the government provided each couple with financial assistance, clothing, household items, utensils, and other essential goods. Elaborate arrangements for food and refreshments were made for guests, while decorated pandals and the sound of band music turned the venue into a festive celebration.

Present at the event, BJP MLA Mukesh Chaudhary said that the Yogi Adityanath-led government is committed to ensuring that welfare schemes reach those at the lowest rung of society. He noted that earlier, financial aid for marriages of poor daughters was limited, but now the government spends nearly ₹1 lakh per wedding. Ministers, MPs, MLAs, and senior officials actively participate in such ceremonies to bless the brides and grooms, he added.

Local residents also lauded the initiative. Hindu priests termed it a proud example of social unity, while Muslim clerics said the event dispelled the misconception that the government works for only one community. According to them, the mass marriage scheme truly embodies the spirit of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” translating inclusive governance into reality on the ground.
