Shocking Incident at Thane Civil Hospital: Snake Causes Panic Among Patients, Doctors, and Nurses

Thane: A startling incident unfolded on Monday at a ward in Thane Civil Hospital when a live snake appeared, causing patients, doctors, nurses, and staff to flee in panic. Thankfully, no one was injured, but the episode has raised serious concerns about patient safety within the hospital premises.

Hospitals are generally considered safe havens for patients seeking treatment for physical or mental ailments. However, what happens when this supposed safety is suddenly threatened? On Monday, this very scenario occurred at Thane Civil Hospital, located near Mumbai, shaking both patients and medical staff alike.

Panic Ensues Among Patients and Staff
The incident took place in a ward at the hospital, where everyone immediately ran for cover upon seeing the snake. No injuries were reported, but the event highlighted potential lapses in hospital safety. The hospital, operational for the past two years, is housed in an older building undergoing renovation. Temporarily, it functions near the Thane Regional Psychiatric Hospital, catering to patients from both Thane and Palghar districts.

Snake Brought in by a Patient
According to hospital sources, the snake was brought in by a patient named Omkar Rathod from a nearby slum area. Rathod had been bitten by a Dhamaan snake and was admitted along with the live snake in his possession. During treatment, the snake slipped from his hands, causing chaos as it slithered under a cupboard in the ward. Eventually, Rathod managed to regain control of the snake, relieving the terrified staff and patients.

Non-Venomous Snake
Thane District Surgeon Dr. Kailash Pawar clarified that the snake was a Dhamaan species and not venomous. He explained that the patient had brought it to the hospital following a bite incident. While the sudden escape caused panic, the situation was controlled without any injuries, and the patient eventually took the snake away safely.

This unusual event has prompted hospital authorities to review safety measures and ensure that patients and staff remain secure in the future.
