Mathura: SSP Shlok Kumar of Mathura has gained attention for leading a decisive crackdown on a large cyber fraud network in the region. Under his direction, Operation Bajrang was launched, resulting in the arrest of 37 suspects from four villages, who have now been sent to jail. The case was registered under organized crime provisions by the Govardhan police.
The operation, carried out by SP Dehat Surendra Chand Rawat and the SP Crime team, involved intensive searches across Devseras, Moodseras, Nagla Akatia, and Daulatpur villages, areas infamously referred to as ‘Mini Jamtara’ for their role in cyber scams. A total of 42 suspects were initially apprehended, with 5 minors later released, and 10 criminals still at large.
Who is SSP Shlok Kumar?
Shlok Kumar, a 2014-batch IPS officer from Bihar, previously served in Agra as ASP and has held postings in Raebareli, Ghaziabad, and Hamirpur before taking charge as SSP Mathura. An engineering graduate from BIT (2010), he initially joined the Indian Oil Corporation before turning to civil services, following in the footsteps of his father, a senior IAS officer.
The Fraud Scheme
The police investigation revealed that the syndicate used 183 mobile numbers in just 25 days to defraud people nationwide. To avoid detection, they buried SIM cards and phones deep in fields. The SIMs, sourced from Assam at around ₹1,500 each, were used briefly for fraud before being destroyed.
The gang operated under the group name ‘Sanskari Balak’, reportedly based in Alwar, using QR codes to extract payments. Approximately 40% of the money went to the group leader, while the cyber fraudsters retained around 7%.
Luxurious Lifestyles Exposed
During searches, police discovered women wearing Apple Watches and homes, including one dubbed the ‘White House’ spanning 2,000–2,500 sq. yards, indicative of the gang’s ill-gotten wealth. Some funds were also stored in Amazon gift cards, which allowed easy concealment of money and subsequent high-value purchases.
Police are now analyzing video footage from local weddings, as the gang allegedly attended recent marriage functions, to identify other potential suspects. Investigations continue, and authorities anticipate further revelations.
SSP Shlok Kumar’s operation marks a significant strike against organized cyber crime in Mathura, showcasing both tactical precision and relentless pursuit of justice.
