Three Killed in Tragic Road Accident on Purvanchal Expressway Amid Dense Fog

A tragic road accident occurred on the Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur district on Monday morning, claiming the lives of three people, including a father and his son, while leaving eight others injured. The accident took place amid dense fog when a speeding car rammed into a stationary truck loaded with straw.

According to police sources, the incident occurred around 9:30 am near milestone 142.9 km, close to Darpipur village under the Semri police outpost of Jaisinghpur Kotwali area. The truck, which was heading towards Bihar, had come to a halt on the expressway after its axle broke down, leaving it stranded on the road without adequate warning signs.

Meanwhile, an Ertiga car traveling from Lucknow to Azamgarh failed to notice the stationary truck due to poor visibility caused by heavy fog and crashed into it from behind. The impact was severe, completely damaging the front portion of the car.

In the horrific collision, Sikandar, son of Harivansh, and Ajay, son of Rambali, residents of Devkhar village in Sarai Mir police station area of Azamgarh, died on the spot. Another victim, Harivansh, succumbed to his injuries after being taken to Dostpur Community Health Centre, taking the death toll to three, including a father and son.

Eight other passengers sustained injuries in the accident. Six injured are currently undergoing treatment at Dostpur Hospital, while two critically injured victims have been referred to Ambedkar Nagar District Hospital for advanced medical care.

Upon receiving information, police and emergency teams rushed to the spot and initiated rescue operations. Circle Officer R.K. Chaturvedi stated that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and the families of the deceased have been informed. The identities of some victims are still being verified.

Officials from UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), along with local police officers, remained present at the site to manage traffic and investigate the incident.

The accident once again highlights the dangers of poor visibility and unattended breakdowns on high-speed expressways, especially during winter fog conditions.
